The Maharashtra government sought an apology from the comedian over his stand-up, calling it a political ‘contract act’; Kamra says he will not apologise
In a parody of a well-known Hindi song, the 36-year-old stand-up comedian reportedly called Mr. Shinde a “gaddar” (traitor), sparking a significant political uproar in Maharashtra. He also joked about recent political events in the state, such as the splits between the NCP and Shiv Sena.

Shiv Sena members damaged the Habitat Comedy Club in Mumbai’s Khar neighborhood, where Mr. Kamra’s show was held, and a hotel that houses the club on Sunday night, March 23, 2025.
The Maharashtra government called Mr. Kamra’s stand-up a political “contract act” and demanded an apology from him on Monday, March 24, 2025. Additionally, the government promised to examine his bank statements and CDRs “to ascertain who is behind this.”
Mr. Kamra stated that he will not apologize for his remarks and that he does not fear “this mob.” He stated that he was prepared to assist “with the police and courts for any lawful action taken against me” in a statement released late on Monday night.
